Experience energy with all your senses.

Expea entrance webAt Expea, you embark on an interactive journey through the world of energy.

Instead of simply watching, you become part of the action: experimenting, exploring, and discovering how things work.

Interactive stations, artistic installations, and digital applications offer fresh perspectives on a topic that shapes our daily lives.

At various stations, visitors can generate energy themselves, investigate physical phenomena, and understand how electricity is produced from the power of water.

A special highlight is the immersive room, where light, sound, movement, and digital effects merge into a unique spatial experience. The environment reacts to visitors and comes alive through their movements and shared energy.

Whether you are a family, a school class, or an energy enthusiast, Expea invites you to discover energy in various, surprising, and interactive ways.

The Cardano Hydropower Plant

Nearly a century of renewable energy.

Built between 1926 and 1929 just outside Bolzano, the Cardano hydropower plant was one of the largest and most modern power plants in Europe at the time. Even today, it remains a key component of South Tyrol's energy system.
Fed by the Isarco River, it is one of the region's most important power plants and contributes significantly to renewable energy production with an annual output of more than 600 million kWh.

It is a place where the power of water is transformed into energy, creating an ongoing dialogue between nature and technology.
Between historic architecture and modern technical systems, the plant demonstrates how a natural resource can be used efficiently and sustainably to provide energy for everyday life.
